HISTORY

G&R developed the first version of Glink as a DOS program in the mid-80s when personal computers began to be installed on desktops in commercial, industrial and governmental organizations, and it was an immediate success. In addition to the normal office application role of PCs, installing Glink allowed these organisations to replace both 'dumb' terminals connected to minicomputers (e.g. UNIX or GCOS6) and 'intelligent' terminals connected to mainframe computers (e.g. Bull VIP7700 or IBM 3270), leaving the PC as the only device needed on the desktop for both local office applications and mainframe data processing.
When the Windows operating system emerged G&R developed a Windows version of Glink, and we have since ported this to the Macintosh and the 32bit Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, XP and 2003 platforms. The basic source code of Glink is shared between all versions, and it has over the years proved to be robust and portable. Few emulation packages can claim the same long term exposure in the field over multiple platforms.

During 1997 we made the major effort of implementing a complete architectural framework for Glink in Java, and then porting the most important emulations and communications interfaces. This meant that more than 450.000 Glink users around the world then had the option of moving into the new world of network downloadable Java applets, while keeping the well known quality of Glink for Windows.
