License and registration
We will issue you a temporary license immediately on receiving your registration. We will issue you a one month demo license before the temporary license expires. You are welcome to download this trial version free of charge, and use it for the trial period of one month. Instructions for installation and use of this trial version of Glink are included at the end of this page. Please remember to copy/save them (why not print/save this complete web page for reference), you will need the instructions in order to get started.

Java 2 Runtime Environment (J2RE)
Glink for Java requires the Java 2 Runtime Environment (J2RE) in order to run properly. Version 6.4 needs at least J2RE version 1.3.1 while version 6.5 needs at least J2RE 1.4. We provide installation packages with the necessary J2RE included for Windows and several popular platforms. Please note that these packages are very large (ranging from 20MB to >50MB depending on platform). If you already have the correct J2RE installed, or would like to download it directly from SUN, please download the Windows package without the JRE or the generic UNIX/Linux install package. The generic install should work on virtually any UNIX/Linux platform, provided it has the correct J2RE installed. These packages are much smaller (around 3MB). Mac OSX comes with J2RE preinstalled, so the installation package for this platform does not contain its own J2RE.

If you have problems getting started, please contact us.

Installing your downloaded trial version of Glink:
The generic Unix package is an Install Anywhere shell script, and it requires an installed J2RE. To install this package just make sure that the Java runtime is in your PATH. e.g.:

PATH=/usr/java/jre1.3.1/:$PATH sh gja640.unix.install.bin

or

PATH=/usr/java/jre1.4.2/:$PATH sh gja650.unix.install.bin

The Windows packages are Install anywhere exe files that you simply double-click. The Install Anywhere package will guide you through the installation process. During installation Install Anywhere will ask you to select a Java Runtime Environment for Glink from among the ones it finds on your workstation. The Java Runtime you select must be at the correct J2RE level in order for Glink to function. After installation is complete you must construct a shortcut on your desktop in the normal way. For Windows users a Glink icon and shortcut is automatically added to the desktop.

Installing your license
A short time after you have completed the download you will receive a five day license at the e-mail address you gave us. This license must be copied to filename licenses in subdirectory configs in the directory where you installed Glink for Java (in Windows C:\Program Files\GlinkJ\configs\licenses). When your one month trial license arrives you must copy it to the same place.

Starting Glink for Java
When you start Glink it will ask you to log-in. Your log-in identity determines your priviliges and the configurations available to you. The trial version has two users, admin and demo, with passwords admin and demo. There is no difference in the configurations available to them, but the admin user is able to make changes to the configurations we deliver. In addition to several working configurations that connect to publically available live hosts, we deliver several templates with connection parameters that can be modified to match hosts available to you, assuming you use the admin log-in. The live host configurations will only work if your firewall allows the connections. Generally the Telnet connections will be allowed. The G&R/Ggate connections to Bull systems will only work if you are allowed to connect to the Ggate port (30841) on our Ggate server here in Norway. The port is open on our side for this trial package.
